The Accredited Air Cargo Agent (AACA) Scheme

Due to the extended Caretaker Period following the federal election, applications for the Accredited Air Cargo Agent Scheme have been delayed. However you can register your interest now. To register go to “Why should I register?” below.

The Accredited Air Cargo Agent (AACA) Scheme is being introduced to tighten security over the land transportation of cargo that may be carried on an aircraft.

The Australian Government is taking action to reduce the risk of unauthorised explosives being inserted into cargo carried on an aircraft.

Who does it cover?

  • The AACA Scheme extends the existing Regulated Air Cargo Agent (RACA) Scheme to cover smaller operators with less complex business operations, such as couriers and contract drivers.
  • Both Schemes apply to cargo to be carried on an aircraft from anywhere in Australia.
  • The Australian Government will introduce new regulatory changes in 2010 which will enable AACAs to do business with RACAs when transporting air cargo.

Does it apply to you?

When should I apply?

  • Businesses can register to become an AACA at any time. If your business is eligible to become an AACA you should register your interest now. You will then receive an invitation to apply for accreditation when formal applications open.

Why should I register?

  • Registering now will ensure that you receive notification once formal applications for accreditation open. You can register quickly and easily online.

Why should you become an AACA?

  • Do more business with RACAs
  • AACA is simpler
  • Avoid air cargo delays and costs
  • Gain valuable training
  • Improve the security of your cargo
  • Help strengthen aviation security

Once you become an AACA, you will be required to comply with the AACA Security Program. You will also be subject to regular compliance and audit checks by the Office of Transport Security.

Why now?

  • Other countries, including our major trading partners, are presently introducing similar Schemes. We are working with these countries to simplify and harmonise air cargo security requirements and enhance the security of the transport industry.
  • A major aviation security incident in Australia would do more than cause physical harm - it would damage the transport industry and individual operators. The measures introduced by the AACA Scheme help prevent this occurring.
